What Is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes physical healing. It is based on the idea that an unseen life force energy flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's life force energy is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy. The actual definition of Reiki is “spiritually guided life force energy.” Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit and creates many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. During a Reiki treatment the practitioner works either with light touch or no touch depending on the comfort of the client. The client lies on a massage table fully clothed for the hour session. The experience of Reiki is subjective, changeable, and sometimes very subtle. Besides experiencing deep relaxation people often experience other pleasant sensations such as heat in the practitioner's hands, subtle pulsations where the practitioner's hands are placed, cascading waves of energy pulsations throughout the body, feelings of tingling, going into a sleep-like meditative state, or having visualizations of beautiful color.
